Life Goes On Even at -40.

Life goes on even at -40. Yes, there are a few things that change: church is shortened, you heat up your car a little longer and wear a few extra layers of clothing. Otherwise, life is normal. I still go to work, kids still got to school and community events are still held.

Today, I decided that even though it was cold I would go and watch the start of the Yukon Quest. I was outside for about 1 1/2 hours. (I wish I would have remembered to bring those little heat warmer things for my fingers and toes.)

No I am not the only crazy one here. I was surprise that to see that there were thousands of people joining in the festivities. Of course I wanted a good spot to see the race so I had to overcome my fears and walk on the frozen Chena River. Then I had to stand on the river with thousands of others. No the ice did not break and I am alive to do it again.

Don't worry - this has not inspired me to go and get a dog sled team to enter next year. I might be able to handle the cold weather - but not days like the racers. I will admit that I stopped in one of the tents to warm up a little bit before I could walk to my car. After a nice cup of hot choco I was ready to face the elements and headed home to finish thawing out. I'm just greatful that I was able to come home and get warm instead of staying out on the trail for days in the race.

You are CRAZY!! It's only 55 here this morning, and I am freezing. It has been in the 70's for a few days this week! I can't wait to hear more about your exciting adventures! Sorry that was me that deleted the first comment. I forgot to add....how cool you got to see the race! SWEET! I bet is was really fun. If you did get a dog sled team to enter next year, I'd definitely come watch you!

How fun!!!! Brandon and I just watched the movie "The Call of the Wild" so I was into sled dogs and cold. You certainly are daring to walk on the river and brave the bitter cold. I can't wait to read more of your adventures.
