I know it has been a while. Mom - hope you were not freaking out. I am still alive but have not had a chance to get on the Internet until now. I will give you a brief update for the past few days and will have to fill you in on the details later.
March 12-14 I stayed with Lawyer and his family. They all spoke English because his wife Doris was an English teacher. They had an exchange student from Finland named Heckie (which reminded me of the movie the Parent Trap.) Lawyer is a solo practitioner.
We did some outdoor things this week: visited Sun Moon Lake and Chi-Tou Recreation Area. Unfortunately the air quality here stinks. I have not seen blue sunny skies since I got here. There were lots of factory tours. We have learned that Taiwan uses the GSE program to promote their businesses. We have had to fight hard to convince them that we need some professional experiences.
It was a frustrating week. Doris and Lawyer offered to take me to court one day but I was told that I had to stay with the group and that they had already planned one court visit for me. I was so frustrated - here I could have gone and watched Lawyer (Peter), who speaks English and discuss it with him. AHHHHH! Luckily we did an after hours discussion with him and his friend Judge Leo. We sat down with the GSE committee here and now they are going to set up some more vocational things for us. At this point I'm not holding my breath. Luckily I am staying with another Lawyer (and potentially two).
Some of the interesting foods for the past few days: Vegan meal. pig intestines, cow stomach, jelly fish (there was something else too but I cannot remember it. Ice cream - you can get red or green bean, taro, or peanut. Crazy. I am sure getting sick of eating so much sea food. I would love a bowl of plain rice at this point.
Saturday and Sunday we stayed at Today's private pagoda. Today is the GSE team leader for Taiwan coming to Alaska in May. Let me just give you a brief description. There is what I would call a hotel (which is where we stayed) with about 25 rooms each with double beds and private baths. Then there is a 3 story house. And you cannot miss the temple. It is gold plated (real gold). It is all on a huge gated campus with a security guard manning the gate. It was a great weekend because we got to relax and do nothing on Saturday Night and Sunday. I caught up on some much needed rest. Unfortunately there were no phones or Internet or that would have been a great time to catch up with you.
Tomorrow I will update you on today. But I am now staying with Maru and family. He and his family (his brother's family and parents) run a rubber company. They live at the rubber factory all together in one building. This should be interesting. Kim is staying with Jackie and his family (Maru's brother) so we will be having a party. Kim is finally fitting into the group. Maru and his family all speak English because they lived in Australia for 7 years. His daughter Erica is accompanying us and acting as an interpreter.

Hooray, you are alive!! I figured you probably didn't have access to the internet until now. Yes mom was freaking out a little, but I think she was okay. Sounds like you are still having fun. Don't worry, once you get back home you don't have to eat that much seafood! Peace!
