I woke up this morning to about 18 inches of new snow. Oh what fun - it really is. In case you wanted to know, the city was not closed down (unlike other cities that close down if there is a forecast of any snow, no matter how little). For the schools who were making up the ice day today, school was still in session (Novemeber when we had a huge ice storm, the only time school has been cancelled in the 6 years I've lived here). There is almost nothing that closes this city. As I drove to the gym, after wading through knee deep snow to get to the car, I had to laugh that everything was open and there were tons of cars on the road. Even the city buses were runnin. Now the roads were not plowed but who cares. Of course I was not going to let a little snow stop me from going to the gym, neither were the other people that were there. It was a full house. Snow stops nothing here.
To all my Texans family, I say, I love you but you are all wimps. I have received multiple calls the past few weeks about how a certain city in Texas was offically closed - nothing open - for multiple days just because the temperature was going to be below freezing. To my nephew, Carson, tell that teacher of yours that it is not dangerous for kids to go out to recess at 50 and colder. The kids here go out until -20. Carson, I promise you will not die if you play outside in the 40s, just wear your coat.
