Garbage and Flowers

Today we went to the Recycling center. It was gross but amazing. They have a huge center that is under the freeway. They recycle almost everything, even uneaten food which is composed or they use to make soap.

Then we went to a printing company and they showed us how they print books. Then we went to the university and had a discussion with the environmental dept. [Mike and Kim's professional time].

We went to a rotary meeting tonight expecting to present. The GSE committee had failed to tell the club that we were going to present so they already had a speaker so we did a lightening speed presentation.

Tonight Celia (my host) took me to the flower district. Flowers of every kind and color. It was beautiful and a great way to end the day after starting at the recycling center with all the garbage. You can get 20 roses (cut that morning) for less than $4 or an orchid plant for under $3. I will miss all the beautiful flowers of Taiwan.

The family I am staying with now is well off. They live on the 22 floor of a huge building in Taichung. They have a maid. Amicus is out of the country for business but his wife Celia is driving me a round. She is a shopper and very American since she lived there for over 10 years. Their kids: Justin (8) and Celina (7) are very energetic and love to read over my shoulder as I type on the computer.

Tomorrow I get to go to a law firm for the morning. Yippee!

Recycling center = Yucky
Flowers = Pretty

The flower place sounded like a lot of fun. I would love to go see a whole bunch of flowers and buy some for DIRT CHEAP! Anymore exciting food to talk about?
